Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone

Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone

What a cliche. We hear it's vital for progress and growth but is it really? I see so many people in the gym and on IG just jacking up weight, trying to do more workout all time all the time, getting out of the comfort zone without really knowing WHY or having a plan.I'd squatted 130 kg (285 lbs). On 3rd attempt. Got lectures by angry dad that I will break my back and must stop powerlifting (ehm, I'm a bodybuilder but let's roll with that). Let's start with WHY.I was updating PRs to calculate the ranges for the next...

It is about you

It is about you

Not about me. Steer clear of coaches that make it about themselves. There are way too many people who have been under loved, and then go into coaching trying to profess what they have found to work for themselves. How Toxic Masculinity Makes My Job Harder

Aside of the fact it makes dudes ask for "six pack and beach muscles" workouts solely, and chicks just want to "tone upper body and get a booty" Toxic masculinity is bringing a lot of other nightmare-fish shenanigans to the gym floor. Lately, I've seen a lot of Former /retired military or competitive athletes pushing through pain, getting injured quickly or worsening a chronic condition SO MANY dudes just skip joint gymnastics and warmup altogether, jumping directly into a heavy compound movement and then wonder why the fuck it HURTS WORSE day after day. Girls typically have the opposite problem...

Attitude Towards Failure

I usually post successful lifts. Well last week when I was updating PRs on the main 3 lifts:squat, bench,deadlift... and in each of them I DID NOT get new MAX numbers the 1st time.Or the 2nd time. Both bench and squat wore successful on attempt 3, and the deadlift... well that was more complicated. Got 315 easy The first three were 335. Picked it up the first time, but thought back rounded (lol it didn't... as you can see), so I dropped it. Adductors were still tired from a heavy leg day 4 days before... so we put the bar on...

My Russian Grandmother's Advice

Growing up in Russia watching mom, two grandmothers and a great grandmother prepare and serve meals formed my food palette, healthy food choices and habits around cooking in general. Here, I will share a couple things that have always been natural to me at home, or when visiting one of the grandmothers as a kid.Maybe those seem old fashioned, but I think, they make sharing a meal with someone or dining alone more conscious and special - something we could all benefit from Wash your hands and face before a meal Sit down, turn off TV, remove books, devices, newspapers...
